Introduction

Media screens have become very popular within a short notice. The broker agency uses them to show properties in their offices, the butcher to inform about running promotion on his meat.

We call this narrowcasting. Narrowcasting provides relevant commercial information on a specific location – usually near the point of purchase – and that makes it the opposite of broadcasting.

Let’s explain the concept with the ad for a new DVD:

When the trailer goes live on public television, only some of the viewers will like movies and have a dvd player. This is broadcasting.

When the trailer gets broadcasted over the screens within a video rent store, we only reach people that like movies, with most bright fully a DVD player as well.
The location of the ad became relevant.
This is narrowcasting.

If we would setup a barcode scanner next to the screen, where the customer can scan the dvd, so the trailer would start..

We would be doing interactive narrowcasting.
