IMDb is taking suggestions on their board for an upcoming mobile app. I think a barcode scanner would be a neat feature, just for the sheer purpose of having a quick and usable link between DVD casings, online trailers and the IMDb page. It saves the trouble having to type.

Location services for print advertising, nutritional information for fast food (already in Japan), historical information for tourist attractions, multimedia explanations of statues and artwork.... It's narrowcasting but we share the infrastructural burden. Instead of you (the content provider) having to build the kiosk, I (the consumer) carry it in my pocket. This is really interesting, and I hope it becomes more widespread as time goes by. Every phone should have a barcode reader on it!!! ;-) Thanks for the post, man... 08-06-2009 21:48 Hey Robbie! Nice ideas man. Only yesterday, I was thinking about IMDb; do they have an API or something? I mean, they have one of the best maintained and popular databases on the web, I think... You could make a bunch of really cool meshups with all this data (like our symantic web searchCloud concept, remember! ) Hope to see you around soon! 08-06-2009 21:58 No API as far as I know, but there is this.
